How an innovative new 24-hour financial platform quickly achieved high-performance, scalability, and reliability for essential banking services

Before it even launched in 2021, LINE Bank Taiwan was well positioned for growth.

The concept was brilliant: integrate digital banking with LINE, one of Asia’s most popular “super apps” and the most-used communication tool in Taiwan. It would give users a convenient, all-in-one platform for LINE communications, social media, e-commerce, and finance.

But rapid growth wasn’t guaranteed. The platform was being built from scratch. LINE Bank needed to quickly build and develop fast, reliable, and scalable banking processes, with the ability to efficiently integrate new services over time.

By choosing Control-M for application and data workflow orchestration, LINE Bank provides seamless, 24x7 digital banking experiences that have quickly attracted users. Its innovations include a convenient, end-to-end loan service that moves a customer from application to deposit in one go. And LINE Bank became the first bank in Taiwan to offer 24x7 US dollar currency exchange, with full remittances to the United States arriving in as fast as 58 seconds.

As a result, LINE Bank is now Taiwan's leading purely online bank, serving over two million customers.

WHY CONTROL-M?
After comparing multiple application and data workflow orchestration products, LINE Bank determined that it could best minimize error rates and maintenance costs by using Control-M's visual workflow design and end-to-end orchestration capabilities, which allow users to create, monitor, and optimize complex processes, with complete execution records for tracking and auditing.

Critical banking services driven by integration & visibility

Working with BMC partner Galaxy Software Services (GSS), whose technical team provided planning and implementation assistance, LINE Bank deployed Control-M to automate and orchestrate the workflows underpinning essential banking services, including:

  • Daily account balancing and closing
  • Daily financial data analysis and reporting
  • Channel synchronization to provide a seamless customer experience

These and other critical services comprise more than 5,000 job schedules built and managed in Control-M.

LINE Bank uses Control-M's cross-system platform integration function and centralized management to automate workloads across on-premises and virtualized environments while maintaining a unified view and control point for the entire enterprise. Rapid, precise mapping and monitoring of all batch jobs allows quick resolutions of cross-platform scheduling issues, fast error identification, and smooth execution of the entire process, so the bank can deliver accurate financial data, on time.

Further, LINE Bank integrates and launches new products quickly and stably using the Control-M job flow designer.

  • 30% reduction in manual wait times by automating SQL and FTP job executions and setting intelligent wait conditions, improving processing speed and operational efficiency
  • 30% reduction in manual work for cross-platform integration
  • 30% reduction in maintenance time when launching new products due to enhanced workflow visibility and issue detection

These efficiencies also contribute to agility. For example, LINE Bank was able to deploy the batch workflows for a new insurance brokerage service in only one month.
